WANG FAM (2015) Review
Directed by Wenn Deramas

Though it’s surprising for a Wenn Deramas film to actually stick to its story, the treatment is still the same and it isn’t doing the film any good. Wang Fam is hardly funny for a comedy film, it has the same antics in old Deramas films that the humor or the jokes doesn’t kick in laughs anymore. The film’s regard for family is admirable and it is also its strength, building the narrative through moral values and the importance of it.

Perhaps balancing a good story and a satirical narrative is hard for the filmmaker, while the other one boasts a decent story, it lacks the punch of a good laugh making it less profitable and the other one packs over ridiculed subjects that works on the mass but does not as resound good filmmaking as the other. The film would’ve worked if it was written naturally, not forced or rushed, every element it wants to present can be interpreted well and though you’d hope for something to experience worthwhile, Wang Fam isn’t going to cut it.
