‘The Lego Batman Movie’ Images, Plot Details and Teaser Trailer Released

First quarter of 2014, Warner Bros. Animations gave us what seemed to be the oddest animation movie idea since animated movies are made, The Lego Movie. Most people only think of Legos as something you can build with for fun, a decent past time for people who have broad minds for imagination.

“Everything is awesome!” The Lego Movie directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller is a box-office and critical success! The film grossed almost $470 million worldwide with only $60 million budget and rated 96% certified fresh at Rotten Tomatoes. People are clamoring for more of its one-of-a-kind animation and story that is beyond imagination.

On October 10, 2014 it was announced that Will Arnett was set to reprise his role in a Lego Batman spin-off film, which Chris McKay (Robot Chicken) would direct for a 2017 release. On October 30, it was announced that Australia-based animation studio Animal Logic was in talks to produce the next three Lego films, the deal was not finalized at the time and the New South Wales government would make financial contributions to all the films. On July 16, 2015, THR reported that Michael Cera was set to voice Robin along with Arnett’s Batman in the film, while Dan Lin, Roy Lee, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller were announced as producers. On August 12, 2015, it was revealed that Zach Galifianakis would be voicing the villainous character The Joker in the film. On October 16, 2015,Rosario Dawson signed on to voice the role of Barbara Gordon, the daughter of police commissioner James Gordon who later becomes the Batgirl. On November 3, 2015, Ralph Fiennes was cast in the film to voice the character Alfred Pennyworth. On November 9, 2015, Deadline first reported that Mariah Carey would voice the character Commissioner Gordon, which was later confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter that she would instead voice Gotham’s mayor.

With the plastic Caped Crusader’s self-praising hard-rock anthem (“DARKNESS!!! NO PARENTS!!!”) becoming one of pop culture’s go-to punchlines for deflating self-serious comic book adaptations, it makes sense for LEGO Batman’s feature outing to continue deeper into that satirical take; presenting the character as a brooding bore too clueless to acknowledge how lonely he is — until his world is “up-ended” by the arrival of Robin and Batgirl. Explained McKay:

“Batman is an island onto himself, the only thing he doesn’t have is relationships. We’re making ‘About a Boy’ as directed by (action director) Michael Mann.”
