‘Captain America: Civil War’ Early Reactions are Marvelous

At 11pm PST on April 8th 2016, Walt Disney and Marvel Studios opted to drop the social media embargo for their upcoming superhero blockbuster, Captain America: Civil War. The film, which is not due to be released for a month, has been set to screen at CinemaCon on April 13th and has apparently already been seen by several members of the press, many of whom began sharing their early impression via social media as soon as the embargo was lifted. Fans have been eagerly awaiting any reactions to the film, which is expected to have major implications for the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and many loyal audience members’ favorite heroes.

But if fans were worried about the initial reception to the film itself, it looks like they can rest easy: The first reactions have hit social media, and the news is overwhelmingly positive.

The positive reaction will no doubt come as a relief to fans of the superhero genre, many of who are likely still vicariously smarting from the vicious beating the last major release in the genre, Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, took at the hands of critics upon its release two weeks ago. However, given Marvel’s eagerness to show the film early and lift embargoes almost immediately, it can’t be considered too tremendous a surprise that the film is receiving notices like these:

Spidey’s appearance is obviously the most favorited part of the film delivering more than the expected screen time. And a relief that even though it’s not as good as The Winter Soldier, Civil War is better than last year’s Avengers: Age of Ultron. It also seems to be more action-packed and to be more fun than its predecessor.

Does these reactions made you more excited to see Captain America: Civil War?

After another incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability, headed by a governing body to oversee and direct the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers, resulting in two camps, one led by Steve Rogers and his desire for the Avengers to remain free to defend humanity without government interference, and the other following Tony Stark’s surprising decision to support government oversight and accountability.

“Captain America: Civil War” opens April 27, 2016 in Philippines cinemas nationwide in 2D, 3D, 4D and IMAX 3D from Walt Disney Pictures. Rated PG by the MTRCB.
