MOVIE REVIEW: My Candidate (2016)

MY CANDIDATE (2016) Review
Directed by Quark Henares

Just days after the election but still fresh from all the ruckus the Philippines has been having from it, we get to be entertained by a film which not only get to mock some of the campaigning strategies and the evil candidate that isn’t evil after all.

My Candidates humor is clever at times and the treatment is gleaming with positivity but the characters are quite bland. The film is too busy with what’s happening that its core story which is the development of the characters are overshadowed by its means for the story to move forward.

The intentions are admirable, laughing your way through a stressful event. The story was okay, it just wasn’t as engaging as it wants to be. Cast are decent, the supporting characters are actually scene stealers, not the way you would expect. Everything is a bit fresh but a also a bit of a let down. You do want to enjoy the movie but you hardly can’t connect properly with its characters that it ends disappointing.
