DEAR OTHER SELF (2017) Review

In the hope of watching a good film, you enter the cinema with no expectations. But even with low expectations, some movies can’t seem to make a mark or rather an impact even with good actors at hand.
Dear Other Self is the perfect example. The film is not bad but you hardly can enjoy the film because of it being too predictable and too accustomed. The excitement while watching a film is thrown away because even if there are two stories being told, you can already predict the film until the very end.
Jodi Sta. Maria plays in two stories, one that continues where she is, what she is doing with her life right now, which is working as a regular employee. And the other one, where she leaves everything behind to do what she’s been wanting all her life, to travel.
That is what the film is trying to advertised as what’s different with it, having to see two stories in one movie. But even with that, there is nothing special about the film. Yes, Jodi Sta. Maria, Xian Lim and Joseph Marco did great with their roles, and yes, the production was decent. But you can hardly feel anything while watching the movie, you can even miss a scene and notice it.
What drives the film is hardly noticeable, you feel that at one point, you just want to get over with it. There is a story, but none of it feels like something new to be told. The film is too dull to make an impact, even with effective actors, everything is just predictable, none of it feels eventful.
The film tries to make everything consequential, that every good or bad thing Becky or Rebecca (Sta. Maria) does, there’s something worse to follow. That when she’s already enjoying her life, there’s something bad happening on the other parts of her life. And what’s even more confusing is how things ended, because, it always has to end happily, leaving some questions unanswered.

Honestly, me & my husband didn’t like this kind of movie. Boring!!!! Though we love those actors/actresses who played their roles . No doubt that they are really very brilliant actors/actresses. But unfortunately, the film was not really convincing from beginning to the end. Please make good Philippine movies that is deserving to be watched by Filipino people. Thank u so much.
