“Fangirl Fanboy” Review: Too Much Charm Isn’t Enough

FANGIRL FANBOY (2017) Review
Directed by Barry Gonzales

A launching movie of a launching love team, Fangirl Fanboy does wonders with its leads through charms but with an overcrowded market full of romantic comedies, a decent story or rather a fresh story is vital to fully satisfy the viewers.

Ella Cruz and Julian Trono has this connection and the film solidly benefits from that connection, their chemistry. They know how to look at each other romantically, dramatically and even the cute and funny way. It’s an advantage but there is more to a film than just its stars.

The story is basic, it’s the same formula we see from a hundred romantic comedies here and abroad. Yes, it’s decent and all, but you can’t help but feel less excited for easily predicting what’s about to happen next. But the the chemistry between Trono and Cruz is just getting stronger and stronger each sequence that you’ll find it charming, too charming it’s the only thing the film has.

Director Barry Gonzales has constructed a generic romantic comedy film fueled by the chemistry of its leads. It’s not bad, it’s just wasn’t anything new at all.
