“Hereditary” Review: Scares that Crawl Deep Within You

HEREDITARY (2018) Review
Directed by Ari Aster

There have been a swarm of successful horror films in the past years, some are effective in giving jump scares, some, decided to be more than just scares and give the audience a genuine and horrifying movie experience. Then, there’s Hereditary.

Stories can from ideas, some are executed because of specific scenes in a story, sometimes they work, sometimes they don’t. Hereditary feels like it was submitted by writer-director Ari Aster like “I have a story. I’m not sure if it will be a blockbuster or if it will be good but I’m 100% proud of it.” Because with horror movies like The Conjuring, Annabelle, It, it seemed all are confident in bringing the scares. But in Hereditary, they brought in the nightmares.

Disturbing images, disturbing characters and a disturbing story, Hereditary will f*ck you up with its twists and turns. The story builds its eeriness slowly but surely, and when it turns to its revelations or scares, it feels as if I’m about to lose my breath. Every emotion is heightened, every image sticks and every revelation haunts.
