‘Aquaman’ Review: A Genuinely Entertaining Superhero Adventure Movie

AQUAMAN (2018) Review
Directed by James Wan

Aquaman is 2 hours and 23 minutes long, that’s how long James Wan aims to entertain you when you enter the cinema to watch the biggest adventure superhero movie from DC Comics.

The film reveals the origin story of half-human, half-Atlantean Arthur Curry and takes him on the journey of his lifetime–one that will not only force him to face who he really is, but to discover if he is worthy of who he was born to be… a king.

James Wan did not disappoint. Aquaman is beyond the adventures of any solo superhero stories in recent memory. It’s big on visuals, the film takes us not just to the deepest part of the oceans, but also to the deep corners of the desert. The film is genuinely entertaining from start to finish and if you know Wan’s works, you’d know that he’s a great storyteller.

What sets Aquaman apart from other DC Comics movies or even Marvel movies is that it’s bold to go the distance visually. It doesn’t just tell a story, it tells it with grand visuals, with action-packed scenes, with a character to root for and with a movement for the environment. I don’t know how much their budget is but it all paid off.

Jason Momoa, Patrick Wilson, Amber Heard, Dolph Lundgren, Willem Dafoe and Nicole Kidman felt like one in creating a bigger picture. An ensemble that worked because of their talents and because of the material they’re working with. It might not be as groundbreaking or as moving as some superhero movies, Aquaman deserves the spotlight now.
