GLASS (2019)

What made Glass one of the most anticipated films of 2019 is that it’s actually a sequel, or maybe the conclusion to Unbreakable and Split. Surprise is that writer and director M. Night Shyamalan made his own kind of superhero cinematic universe. But with his unusual type of films, is Glass actually a fitting conclusion to two of his interesting works?
The answer is a yes and a no. Yes, because it doesn’t follow a certain formula making its story more M. Night Shyamalan-y and that’s good because it maintains its identity as something not as big as a Marvel or DC film but it follows what Unbreakable and Split did. No, because it falls short in creating an engaging story, an explosive ending.
Glass may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but with James McAvoy’s multiple character portrayal, you’ll definitely ride its craziness until its ending. It deviates from its promise of extravagance, a proper ending to a huge build up from Split.
I like that it’s different but I can’t shake the feeling that there’s something lacking in the film. Wonder maybe? But it’s definitely an interesting story, an interesting take on the superhero genre that also certainly makes a good conversation starter.
