ALONE TOGETHER (2019) Review

Finally, a memorable LizQuen movie. Alone Together may not be the best romance film in years, but it brought out the best in Liza Soberano and Enrique Gil. And one can definitely relate to the journey of both Raf (Gil) and Tin (Soberano) in the story.
Alone Together, the newest film from blockbuster and critically-acclaimed director Antoinette Jadaone, who has been giving us impressive romance movies like That Thing Called Tadhana, Love You to the Stars and Back and last year’s Never Not Love You. She definitely knows how to handle her actors and how to engage her audience.
The film starts as hopeful as a a college student can be, dreaming of changing the world someday or being someone who can make it big not just locally but also internationally. But career and love does not always find balance especially when you fall hard and your world collides because of something you did not intend to happen.
Life, life happens.
What’s best about Jadaone’s romance film is that it is about dreamers and about lovers. But at the latter part of the film, it doesn’t know which one to focus on: the love story or the story of a woman about to redeem her mojo.
It’s hard not to like the film as this is Liza Soberano’s best performance on the big screen yet. And the story can easily hit the dreamers and the lovers on what the characters are going through.
It definitely feels like a personal piece. Falling down so hard at what you thought you’re best at. That stings. Being a former leader then turns into a follower, being the world to a person then suddenly becomes nothing. It’s all here.
Alone Together may not be solidly written but it delivered the promise it gave its audience and may be even more for some.
