Last year’s Goosebumps starring Jack Black as R.L. Stine was a humble success, not really a huge hit but more than enough to have Sony greenlit a sequel.
The film was received well be the critics for its simple adventure story with a heart and Jack Black is just as hilarious as he can be as R.L. Stine in it. And since there are 62 books in the original “Goosebumps” series, the filmmakers will have plenty of material to wade through in order to craft a story.
The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Sony Pictures is in development on a sequel. The first film’s director Rob Letterman (Shark Tale, Monsters vs. Aliens) and screenwriter Darren Lemke (Turbo) will return for Goosebumps 2, with Deborah Forte (The Golden Compass) and Neal H. Moritz (22 Jump Street) also coming back as producers. While Jack Black has yet to sign on, the hope is he will also come back to the fold for more monster mayhem.
That’s the only thing we’ve learned so far but we’ll surely keep you up when new details surfaces.
