Dexter Hemedez officially withdraws his film entry “Pilot” for the Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival 2018. The film will be replaced by Perci Intalan’s “Sa Pagitan ng Dito at Doon.”
Here’s the statement from the Cinemalaya fan page:
As confirmed by Cinemalaya Competition Director and seasoned master director MEL CHIONGLO, two #Cinemalaya2018 finalists have officially withdrew their films from this year’s competition (due to valid reasons) — They are:
1. “PILOT” by Dexter Hemedez, and
2. “PINAY BEAUTY” by Jay Abello.
From the line up of 3-5 wait-listed films, “Pilot” will be replaced by “Sa Pagitan ng Doon At Dito” by Perci Intalan (first time in Cinemalaya festival), while “Pinay Beauty” will be replaced by “School Service” by Louie Ignacio (whose last Cinemalaya film was “Asintado” of Aiko Melendez), from screenplay by Onay Sales. As per Direk Louie, his lead actress will be Ai-Ai Delas Alas whose first Cinemalaya film was “Ronda” in 2014.
“Sa Pagitan ng Dito at Doon” is about a wife who comes home to be reunited with the husband and children that she turned her back on years before.
Intalan will have a mainstream film under Regal Entertainment, Inc. to be released February 14, 2018 titled My Fairy Tail Love Story starring Janella Salvador and Elmo Magalona.
The Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival will be on August 3 – 12, 2018 at the CCP Theaters and select Ayala Malls Cinemas.
