Kiko Pangilinan: I think the movie industry is overtaxed

During the conference of Kiko Pangilinan for the entertainment media hosted by Regal Entertainment, Inc.’s Keith Monteverde and Rosell Monteverde, the senatorial candidate answers his plans for the entertainment industry:

“I’m inspired by what the government of Korea is doing to promote cinema, food, arts, culture, and pumping investments, of course, incentives for the industry. I think if talent alone, we can match them but the support of the government is critical. I think the industry is overtaxed. And in exchange for reducing tax, we should give incentives because in return, tourism will flourish, that’s a new revenue stream. We also need to look at why masyadong mahal ang ticket prices sa atin kasi nga, overtaxed, so we have to review that. In return for the incentives is of course, to bring the movie industry really cutting edge para we can compete with Korea, Japan and other countries. In Korea, government intervention and support is key and we should be able to do that, no reason why hindi tayo dapat maging cutting edge, center of culture and arts and cinema in Southeast Asia in the world.”

There’s a lot of truth in his statement and with a wife who’s deeply involved with the entertainment industry, Kiko Pangilinan is no stranger to the struggles they are facing.

Kiko Pangilinan is known for his achievements in lowering prices and helping the marginalized, especially the farmers.

His most notable bill was the “Sagip Saka Act” or the Republic Act 11321, which the national and local government will directly buy items from farmers and their cooperatives, no middleman needed. This will greatly help the farmers as profits will be all theirs.
