THE Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB), under the leadership of Chairperson and CEO Lala Sotto-Antonio, has participated in the Cine Expo 2025 organized by the Cinema Exhibitors Association of the Philippines (CEAP) on March 5-6 in Quezon City.
Speaking on the second day of the event, Sotto-Antonio stressed that “no rule can replace responsibility,” as she underscored the Board’s efforts to promote safe viewing culture through its flagship program—the Responsableng Panonood (RP) campaign.
“Our flagship program is an active call to action that promotes media literacy to parents and guardians, encouraging wise media choices, healthy viewing habits, and co-regulation with our stakeholders,” said Sotto-Antonio to an audience of producers, directors, distributors, artists, and cinema operators.
She added that at the heart of the RP program is the word “PROTECT” which stands for:
l P – provide guidelines on age-appropriate content;
l R – regulate screen time and set healthy limits;
l O – observe co-viewing;
l T – teach media literacy;
l E – educate children on the impact of media—both the good and the harmful;
l C – create a family viewing plan; and,
l T – take the lead by setting an example in responsible viewing and content consumption.
Sotto-Antonio also outlined the program’s four core initiatives: RP Seminars; RP Pulong; Responsableng Paglikha; and, Responsableng Paggabay.
“We are proud to share that the Responsableng Panonood program has garnered interest from regulators in other countries, with some considering adopting similar initiatives in their regions,” she noted.
The Chairperson also presented recent Board actions in order to accommodate the changing demands of the creative industry and to strengthen MTRCB’s regulatory mandate.
She also gave an overview to the MTRCB Mobile Application and extended an invitation to everyone to take part in the celebration of the MTRCB’s 40th Anniversary happening in October 2025.
“For four decades, we have stood beside our partners in the creative industry. Our journey has always been about service—serving the Filipino family, supporting the creative industry, and upholding our Filipino cultural values.”
During the two-day Cine Expo, the Board also distributed Information and Education Campaign (IEC) materials and provided on-site services, including assistance with registration and classification-related concerns.
These efforts demonstrate the Agency’s ongoing commitment to transparency, accessibility, and collaboration within the TV and film industry.
CEAP officials expressed their appreciation for the MTRCB’s active engagement, recognizing its vital role as the regulatory body mandated to provide age-appropriate ratings and classifications, while also actively supporting and guiding the film and cinema industry.
