By the Power of Grayskull: ‘Masters of the Universe’ Hits Prime Video Today Worldwide

The wait to return to Eternia is officially over as director Travis Knight’s live-action epic Masters of the Universe makes its worldwide streaming debut today, July 22, exclusively on Prime Video. Bringing Mattel’s legendary 1980s franchise back to life for a new generation, the PG-13 sci-fi action adventure runs for 132 minutes and delivers a grand scale adventure produced by Amazon MGM Studios, Escape Artists, and Mattel.

The story follows Prince Adam, played by Nicholas Galitzine, who has been separated from his homeworld for fifteen long years. When the Sword of Power leads him back to Eternia, he finds his childhood home shattered under the fiendish rule of Skeletor, portrayed by Jared Leto. To save his family and liberate his world, Adam must join forces with his closest allies, including Teela, played by Camila Mendes, and Duncan, also known as Man-At-Arms, played by Idris Elba. Ultimately, Adam must embrace his true destiny as He-Man, the most powerful man in the universe.

Behind the cameras, the production boasts an impressive artistic lineup. The screenplay was written by Chris Butler alongside Aaron Nee, Adam Nee, and Dave Callaham, from a story crafted by the Nee brothers together with Alex Litvak and Michael Finch. The ensemble cast also features Alison Brie, James Purefoy, Morena Baccarin, Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson, and Charlotte Riley, along with a special voice performance by Kristen Wiig as the beloved character Roboto. The film was brought to life by producers Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, Robbie Brenner, and DeVon Franklin, with executive producers Ynon Kreiz, Bill Bannerman, and David Bloomfield.

While epic battles were waged on screen, the production team was pioneering clean energy solutions off-camera across filming locations in the English countryside. As part of Amazon’s commitment to corporate sustainability, the majority of the cast and producers were transported using electric Mercedes vehicles powered by on-site charging stations. To keep basecamp running quietly and cleanly, the team utilized GeoPura hydrogen power units, an innovative technology that operates with almost zero noise and leaves behind water as its only exhaust.

Beyond the entertainment, the franchise is channeling its iconic heritage into positive real-world impact. Having spread a message of self-empowerment for more than forty years, Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel have partnered with Save the Children to turn the classic catchphrase “You Have the Power!” into a worldwide movement. The campaign mobilizes fans to support vulnerable youth by funding healthcare, education, and protective services. Audiences can participate in this initiative by making direct donations through Pledge or by texting HERO to 707070, with every dollar directly benefiting Save the Children.
