The Alvin and the Chipmunks live-action movies may not be huge critical successes, but they have done quite well at the box office. Case in point, the third instalment in the franchise, Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked, having taken in excess of $342 million at the worldwide box office (back in 2011).
Usually released to coincide with the holiday season (except for us since we have the Metro Manila Film Festival), it is no surprise that these movies are popular with families and young kids, who seemingly never tire of the high-pitched singing rodents. Just as well, really, since the fourth Alvin and the Chipmunks installment has just released its first trailer.
Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip, will arrive in theaters January 2016 and once again features the voice talents of Justin Long (Alvin), Matthew Gray Gubler (Simon) and Jesse McCartney (Theodore). Jason Lee also returns as the chipmunk’s exasperated guardian, Dave. The movie is directed by Walt Becker (Wild Hogs, Old Dogs) from a screenplay by Randi Mayem Singer (Mrs Doubtfire, Toothfairy).
The official synopsis for the film is as follows:
“Through a series of misunderstandings, Alvin, Simon and Theodore come to believe that Dave is going to propose to his new girlfriend in New York City…and dump them. They have three days to get to him and stop the proposal, saving themselves not only from losing Dave but possibly from gaining a terrible stepbrother.”
Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip will arrive in Philippine cinemas January 2016 from 20th Century Fox to be distributed by Warner Bros..
