JACK REACHER: NEVER GO BACK (2016) Review
Directed by Edward Zwick
Tom Cruise is back doing what he’s best at, running and punching people here and there. But of course, with a story, and Jack Reacher: Never Go Back may not be his best work but it still gives us the satisfaction of seeing how the bad guy gets what he deserves in the end of the film.
Jack Reacher: Never Go Back surprisingly adds another layer to the spy films Tom Cruise’s stars in, and it’s quite not the usual situation his character has to deal with, having a daughter. Yes, Tom Cruise is old enough to portray a father role, but we can’t argue that his filmography doesn’t have that much titles that have him as a father. This gives the film more story and to a point, adds more tension which was used effectively.
The action scenes and suspenseful sequences are effective, Cruise already knows his way in delivering the goods in spy films and though there’s nothing surprising about the story or nothing inventive about the treatment of the film, its effective way of giving an edge-of-your-seat sequences makes Jack Reacher: Never Go Back a fun and thrilling ride which is the intention of the film from the start.
3 OUT OF 5 STARS
“Jack Reacher: Never Go Back” is now showing in Philippine cinemas and IMAX Theatres nationwide from United International Pictures. Rated R-13 by the MTRCB.
Jack Reacher” s second installment looks promising in terms of emotion and entertainment. Edward Zwick has showcase a great chemistry between Tom Cruise and Danika Yarosh. Cobie Smulders did a great job. Chase sequences, Fist fighting and dialogue were treat for any Tom Cruise fan. However you will badly miss Ethan in this Jack.
