Love triangles, the “torpe,” the simple but attractive girl and the varsity player, we’ve all come across those characters in our favorite teen show or movie and we somehow relate to one of them.
This Christmas season, Star Cinema brings to the big screen the viral text message series turned book, “Vince & Kath & James” starring Joshua Garcia, Julia Barretto and Ronnie Alonte, directed by Theodore Boborol (Just The Way You Are).
The film centers on VINCE (Joshua Garcia), who has a longtime crush on go-getter popular student KATH (Julia Baretto). Just as when he’s about to confess his feelings for her, his best friend JAMES (Ronnie Alonte) begs him to build him up on her through text messaging by pretending to be “Var.” Apparently, James has fallen in love with Kath and he doesn’t know how to court her. Adapted from Queen Elly’s viral social serye “Vince and Kath,” “Vince and Kath and James” is directed by Theodore Boborol.
In the bloggers conference of Vince & Kath & James, director Theodore Boborol praises the cast and think that the sincere storytelling, in its finest and purest form, made the film to be included in the final eight of the Metro Manila Film Festival.
Love triangles are not new in Philippine cinema, in fact, a lot of romantic flicks are somewhat tries to have a third party in its love team. But what Vince and Kath and James might offer more is it’s not pretending to be something big, something dramatic. It is just a guy who genuinely cares about a girl he can’t express or confess his feelings to. And based on the trailer, Joshua Garcia seems to be comfortable with his character that he makes a very effective Vince. Julia Barretto looks like she finally found a character that fits her well and Ronnie Alonte, though a bit new to acting, keeps up with his co-actors effortlessly.
“Vince and Kath and James” opens in Philippine cinemas December 25, 2016 from Star Cinema. An official entry to the Metro Manila Film Festival. #MMFF2016 #VinceAndKathAndJames
