Last year, Regal Entertainment, Inc. offered something special not just for the mothers but also for the helpers we have at home. “Our Mighty Yaya” which starred the comedy queen Aiai delas Alas, may have brought back Filipino-made Mothers’ Day movies in the Philippines as this 2018, Regal Films’ brings not just one but two mother figures in one roller coaster ride of a story in “My 2 Mommies.”
Starring Paolo Ballesteros, Solenn Heussaff, Marcus Cabais, Joem Bascon with the special participation of the diamond star, Ms. Maricel Soriano, My 2 Mommies tells the story of Manu (Ballesteros), a discreet gay guy in a relationship with another guy, who has a successful career but is not out to his family.
But his life takes a pivotal turn when Monique (Heussaff), Manu’s best friend from his past, shows up one day and admits to him that they have a seven-year-old son. Is Manu prepared to reveal his kid that his dad is also a “mommy” and confess his true identity? Is Manu ready for the responsibilities of parenthood and raise his son in an unconventional way?
“My 2 Mommies” will give us a different or modern definition of “motherhood.” That it isn’t about being a woman who has a child, it’s more about having the ability to raise a child with instincts that puts the welfare of the child always at first.
Ballesteros states that the story of My 2 Mommies is fitting for what we celebrate during the month of May, Mother’s Day. He may not be wearing a superhero outfit, or make up that makes him look like a female celebrity, because the core of what the film wanted to present is its story.
“My 2 Mommies” opens in Philippine cinemas May 9, 2018 from Regal Entertainment, Inc. Directed by Eric Quizon.
