OCEAN’S 8 (2018) Review
Directed by Gary Ross
Stealing is a bad thing, but with Debbie Ocean and her new found crew, everything looks easy, everything looks normal. It may be a product of more than a 5-year plan, but for the viewers, heists mean that there are risks and as the film may possess star power, the film lacks thrill.
When you hear Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Mindy Kailing, Sarah Paulson and Rihanna teams up for a movie, it already sounds big. But what will these fine actresses will be working on? A reboot or a women-centric adaptation of a successful franchise would be fun, right? Yes, it is quite interesting on how they will take on the Ocean’s franchise but it is also a bit disappointing that with all these talented women in one movie, there isn’t enough excitement the film could offer.
The film tackles its story lightly. From recruiting the ladies, the inside dramas, even the supposed tension during the heist. It’s not a bad thing. It’s fun and entertaining but it feels as though even the surprises aren’t that surprising anymore because all that’s laid into our eyes are dealt with lightly, too lightly it forgot to be more than just the point of view of its characters.
3.5 OUT OF 5 STARS
