‘John Wick: Chapter 4’ Review: An ode to the action genre fans

JOHN WICK: CHAPTER 4 (2023) Review
Directed by Chad Stahelski

It’s big, it’s stylish, it’s over-the-top when it comes to almost everything. This franchise continues to add more reasons for the fans of the action genre to love. It has car chases, gun shooting, sword fighting and even killer dogs. John Wick: Chapter 4 goes all out not just in terms of storytelling but also making John Wick’s journey look and feel bigger than his previous ones.

It feels like an ode to the action genre fans. Going more practical than CGI and giving the audiences non-stop action, literally, that it will leave you breathless. You can feel Reeve’s and Stahelski’s dedication to the genre. That they don’t want the fans of John Wick and the action genre to be disappointed.

It’s really an achievement to have come up with engaging stories about just one person in four successful installments. John Wick serves as an example that you don’t need a lot of CGI and a lot of complicated conflicts just to have a well-received franchise. You just have to stick to the character’s emotional journey and top whatever it is that’s already been done. You can also add camp to have more personality and entertainment.

John Wick is Keanu Reeves and Keanu Reeves is John Wick. It’s that iconic character that will live on forever. A true achievement in the action genre.
