Long overdue: Ken Chan shows acting prowess in family drama ‘Papa Mascot’

With overwhelming praises from his performances in GMA Network series’ ‘Destiny Rose’ and ‘My Special Tatay,’ Sparkle GMA Artist Center talent Ken Chan finally gets to showcase his acting prowess on the big screen via Luisito Lagdameo Ignacio’s ‘Papa Mascot.’

During their world premiere at SM Megamall last April 17, 2023, the Kapuso actor thanks his management for allowing him to accept and do a material that’s not family-friendly but will definitely demonstrate his acting capabilities that goes beyond the four corners of the television screens.

“Pagdating sa TV, may mga limitasyon po. Ang pag gamit ng mga bad words, ang pag gamit ng sigarilyo, talagang hindi natin ‘yun maipapakita sa TV. Pero nagkaroon po ako ng kalayaan bilang isang aktor na maipakita ‘yung matagal ko nang kinikimkim bilang isang aktor at nailabas ko po dito sa pelikulang Papa Mascot. Isang materyal na kung saan matagal ko nang pinapangarap at pinagdadasal na magkaroon,” he shares to the audience of the premiere night.

But even if enjoyed and was proud for finally having the opportunity to work outside the comforts of TV, Ken is still thankful to his home network for giving him of good quality projects that still challenged him, “as an actor, doing TV series, I’m also blessed and thankful dahil talagang dekalibre naman po ang mga pino-produce ng GMA Network and I’m just blessed na nagagawa ko po ‘yun both worlds.”

Now a producer

Apart from starring in ‘Papa Mascot,’ this is also Ken’s first time being a producer, “proud na proud po akong sabihin na I’m part of this project not only as an actor but also as a co-producer. And as a co-producer, may mga pagkakataon po na nakakapagbigay po kami ng creative juices, pinagsasama po namin kung ano yung mga gusto namin ipakita sa mga viewers,” Ken shares.

More projects to come

During the online media conference, Ken Chan reveals more movies are on the way.

“Sobrang blessed po ako with the producers of Papa Mascot. And after this, sa July, pupunta po kaming Taiwan to shoot a movie. Makakasama ko po dito ang isang magaling na aktress mula sa kabilang estasyon po. After naman po sa Taiwan, lilipad naman po kaming Thailand to do a movie with a Thai artist.”

‘Papa Mascot’ is now showing in Philippine cinemas from Wide International Film Productions. Rated R-13 by the MTRCB.
