‘Silent Night’ Review: Action-packed revenge thriller with a twist

SILENT NIGHT (2023) Review
Directed by John Woo

If you’re a fan of John Wick, this is for you. If you’re a fan of car chase scenes, this is for you. If you’re a fan of unapologetic gun-shooting, knife stabbing and other gory things that can happen during fights, this is definitely for you.

John Woo’s latest action thriller is no fuss and no unnecessary dramas, all thrilling action-packed scenes that will take you on a rollercoaster ride, action movie fans deserve. But all the action would feel useless without a reason, without the audience rooting for something for the main character. That’s where the heart of the film comes.

Silent Night isn’t just about some guy who wanted to take down gangs that’s making disturbance in their community, no. It’s about a father who lost his son, who lost the will to love again and a man who lost his voice. It’s action-packed, the tension is high and at times heartwarming. This isn’t your ordinary action movie. Director John Woo manages to give more for the action genre fans and the film is actually a good idea for a start of a franchise like John Wick.

Joel Kinnaman is perfect for the role. His rage looks scary like he’s definitely ready to avenge the death of his son. And seeing his scenes without voice, you feel all his pain, his anger and his drive to avenge. Silent Night is an action-packed revenge thriller with a twist. Having the main character in an action film being unable to talk is quite refreshing and you get to feel more, you get to see more because of the absence of the dialogues.
