When you think about The IdeaFirst Company, quality will be the first thing that comes to mind. From ‘Bwakaw’ to ‘Barber’s Tales’ to ‘Die Beautiful,’ the stories they produce are really worth telling and undeniably timeless.
With their upcoming EnlighTEN: The IdeaFirst Film Festival, Perci Intalan, the President of The IdeaFirst Company shared that it was emotional organizing their first film festival as it opened a lot of emotional memories in the ten years in the industry of their company, “Para siyang moment sa Cinema Paradiso. Naiiyak ako sa dulo, nag-flash ang buong buhay ko sa harap ko. Parang nagawa natin lahat ‘yan? Nakaka-emotional kasi hindi mo akalain na marami na pala sila (films).”
But with all the films that their company produced, what was the one that he thinks is the greatest achievement that they never knew would happen?
“Die Beautiful will always have a special place in our hearts kasi everything was pointing towards this is going to be an arthouse film, maliit na pelikula and yet nag-MMFF (Metro Manila Film Festival), and yet nag-top grosser, umabot siya ng P100M. It’s a movie about a transgender woman. Kahit ngayon, hindi mo ‘yun susugalan nang basta basta at alam namin na hindi siya pambata. Proud ako kasi it’s a non-linear story, hindi siya mainstream pero kinagat ng tao. Kaya sa lineup na ‘to (IdeaFirst Film Festival), hindi pwedeng mawala ang Die Beautiful kasi even if maraming nakapanood, importante siya sa history natin. Turning point talaga (ng IdeaFirst Company) ang Die Beautiful.”
