It’s hard to explain what I witnessed at the Wishdate Unexpected Concert which was held last April 28 at the Mall of Asia Arena. In a time when people hardly choose to go to the cinemas to watch romantic stories starring local artists, the audience during the Wishdate Unexpected concert get frenzy for all the “kilig” and surprises the short story that was presented featuring Kate Yalong, Jameson Blake, Timothy Tuppil and Teejay Marquez.
From different generations, whether you’re a Gen X, a millennial or a Gen Z, or even genders because both men and women and those in the LGBTQIA+ spectrum had their kilig moments as you see them cheer and tease each other whenever they relate to a certain scene or a line.
I think what Wishdate Unexpected did should be studied. How they managed to fill up the Mall of Asia Arena to show a short film that doesn’t have big names in the industry and various respectable music artists with decent following and have a warm reception from start to finish? Even some projects from major TV networks are having a hard time to pull off something like that.

Music does really make films better and with 6 Cyclemind, Arthur Miguel, Cup of Joe, Hakki and Julie Anne San Jose performing live to make specific scenes have more impact emotionally with songs that the audiences can not just feel but also sing to, the whole experience of the concert is somewhat elevated.
The concert was beyond anything I expected. A one-of-a-kind experience that will make you realize that OPM is alive and the support is warm. We just need showcase it more and better like what Wishdate did.
