Some call the BL or the boys’ love phenomenon a fad, only peaking during the height of the pandemic. But producers continue to gamble on boys’ love stories because they don’t just get recognized or supported by their respective countries but in other parts of the world as well. And we’re no stranger to that.
OXIN Films, the production behind ‘My Day The Series,’ ‘My Story The Series,’ ‘Tie The Knot’ and ‘Rainbow Prince,’ comes up with another boys’ love story with a side girls’ love couple in ‘Sky Valley.’
When asked about the inspiration of ‘Sky Valley,’ a teary-eyed Xion Lim answers, “Very personal siya sa akin. Kakamatay lang ni Papa seven months ago, so dedicated sa kanya ang ibang ginawa kong scenes. Pero even before siya namatay, ginagawa ko na ‘tong project. And most of the elements ng show is nandun siya like the background music, it was his favorite. But the story, the inspiration, dun (Sky Valley) talaga ako lumaki but the story, ‘yung nangyari sa kanila (lead actors), hindi naman nangyari sa akin. I got inspired kasi parang the location itself has a lot of stories to tell. When I was doing the script, sabi ko this is something na hindi pa natin napapanood sa Philippine cinema. Kakaiba siya compared to other BLs na set in sa school. This one is something different kasi nafi-feature somehow ‘yung ibang parts ng country.”
“Sa ngayon kasi, talagang meron pa rin talaga. Konti lang ‘yung gumagawa. As you can see sa ibang bansa, tuloy pa din sila sa paggawa. Ako, gusto ko pa din ipagpatuloy ang representation ng Philippines sa BL world kasi madami pa din nag-aabang ng magagandang kwento,” director Xion Lim on why he continues to do BL series despite the audience decline.
As of now, with only just three episodes out, Sky Valley has accumulated over 2.9M views on their YouTube channel. That is no joke considering the competition with free contents available online now.
