FAMAS Short Film Festival to give spotlight to the short film industry

Why just short films?

“The full-length kasi is already the main focus of FAMAS, the Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences. The last few years, we’ve been awarding Best Short Films as one of the major categories of FAMAS. But it’s always been my dream to be equally at par with the short films because I observed there are a lot of short filmmakers that the actors’ performances exceed what the mainstream or full-length offers,” answers FAMAS President Francia Conrado.

“We are gathering the entire nation to submit their short films. Ang difference ng short film festival na ito, magkakaroon ng chance ang lahat ng actors, actress, photograher, editor, etc. kasi magkakaroon sila ng separate award – Best in Cinematography, Best Editing, Best in Music and Sound Design, Best Actor and Best Actress, along with the Best Picture (Best Short Film) and Best Director,” continues Festival director Gabby Ramos.

The FAMAS Short Film Festival 2025 is a groundbreaking event dedicated solely to short films, presented by REMS Entertainment, owned by filmmaker Gabby Ramos.

“This inaugural festival aims to celebrate Filipino filmmakers’ creativity and storytelling, offering a distinguished platform for short-form films,” remarks Ms. Francia Conrado, President of FAMAS (Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences).

Director Gabby, the festival director of the 1st FAMAS Short Film Festival 2025, beams with honor and excitement for his new endeavor, himself a past winner of Best Short Film in FAMAS 2024 for “Huling Sayaw Ni Erlinda”.

Direk Gabby encourages diversity and innovation, inviting “finished short film entries” in various categories that highlight compelling narratives, artistic expression, and socially relevant themes.

“Ma’am Francia always dreams of awarding short films, just like what they do in the main event of FAMAS over decades.

“Like her, I personally believe that short filmmakers will be the next generation of filmmakers of Philippine Cinema.

“Likewise, that is also our vision in Rems Entertainment, especially after we opened our VS Cinema in Quezon City.

“That’s the reason why we proposed to produce this event,” says Direk Gabby.

Submission of entries is currently ongoing, with March 25, 2025 as the deadline.

After the cinema screenings from May 5 to 9, the exciting Awards Night will take place on May 10.
