“Bar58 is offering different types of entertainnment. Meron kaming kasabihan dito ‘where music and laughter collide,’ definitely, kami ay isang comedy bar, kami rin ay restaurant. Pwede kayo um-order, hindi lang po kami drinks, meron din kaming sine-serve na masasarap na pagkain. And aside from that, after 2PM, alam ninyo naman ang mga bagets mahilig mag-party, it will turn into a party drop. Ang comedy bar kasi up to 2AM to 3AM. ‘Yan ang Bar58, we offer clean, good, fun entertainment through comedians,” shares Bar58 manager Buboy Remolin.
Buboy was humble enough to give credit to the one who started the comedy bar scene in Manila, Andrew Real aka Mamu, the man behind The Library. When asked why Malate, Mamu answered:
“Malate, kasi ito talaga ang night life noong araw pa. Ito talaga ‘yung haven. Nandito lahat: models, designers, artista, singers, from all walks of life, makikita mo naglalakad sa kalye, nag-iinuman, party place. Malate is used to be my playground for 32 years sa The Library. I started 1986, natapos ago mag-pandemic. Pero buhay pa naman Library, nasa Las Pinas na. Kaya sabi ko ang swerte niya kasi siya lang ang nag-iisang comedy bar dito, kasi dati ang dami namin dito. Noong nag-bukas ang The Library dito, siyempre sumikat ‘yung industry. Meron sa tapat ko, sa gilid ko, namatay naman sila lahat,” Mamu jokes.
”I do not compete with them. I compete with myself. Gagawa ako ng bagong show. May gimik ako, nagdi-discover ako ng bagong talents like sina Arnell Ignacio, Allan K tapos sina Vice Ganda, Teri Onor, Wally, sila Petite, Tetay. Sabi ko sa kanya, suport kita kasi nasa Malate ka. Malate is my playground,” Mamu continues.
