The series opens with a string of failings from its main character, Matteo, portrayed with raw intensity by JM de Guzman. However, director Jerome Pobocan emphasizes that these ‘wrongs’ are merely the starting point for a much larger, inspirational narrative. As Matteo navigates his complex journey, the production is pulling out all the stops; viewers can expect high-profile guest artists in the coming episodes who will challenge the characters to look beyond themselves. Through these encounters, Matteo begins to discover the weight of other people’s lives—all under the guidance of Emman, a figure whose presence mirrors that of Jesus or Emmanuel.
How did this project come about?
“Nabuo ‘yung project sa isang mahabang phone call. Bali, nag-usap kami ni Enrico (Santos), tapos napag-usapan namin na nasa gitna tayo ng pandemic, ano ba ang magandang gawing kwento a tingin natin napapanahon? So, it took us two years bago masimulan ang project pero ang masasabi ko lang, tama ang panahon ngayon na nilabas ang proyekto,” answers creator and director Derick Cabrido.
What made JM de Guzman, Shaina Magdayao say yes to the project?
“Sa call lang din, sa tawag lang din. Actually, nung time na ‘yun, iba pa ‘yung role na ino-offer sa akin pero nagustuhan ko na talaga ‘yung istorya, game na talaga ako. Na-bless ako na napunta sa akin ang role ni Matteo,” shares JM.
“Matagal tagal na din na napapaisip ako na sana may gawin ako na ganitong materyal ulit, dahil I grew up making films or teleserye na ganito din ang pinaguusapan pero it would be a different challenge, kumbaga ibang level na ulit dahil hindi na ako ‘yung baby sa materyal, ako na ‘yung nanay. So, parang full circle. And also, may mga tao na naging bridge para mai-offer sa akin ito,” answers Shaina.
My Bespren Emman is an inspirational drama featuring a powerhouse cast led by JM De Guzman, Shaina Magdayao, Sid Lucero, and Ai-ai delas Alas, created by Derick Cabrido and Enrico Santos.
The series follows Mateo (JM de Guzman), a man navigating the consequences of his past mistakes while trying to build a future with his childhood best friend, Ruth (Shaina Magdayao). Following a life-altering accident, Mateo meets a mysterious figure named Emman, who guides him through a transformative journey toward redemption.
Co-produced by Numinous Narratives and Spring Films, under the direction of Derick Cabrido and Jerome Pobocan, My Bespren Emman airs Mondays to Fridays after A Secret in Prague.
