NAGA CITY, CAMARINES SUR — Naga City Mayor Maria Leonor “Leni” Robredo threw her support behind the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board’s (MTRCB) Responsableng Panonood campaign, commending Chairperson and CEO Lala Sotto and the agency for expanding the initiative nationwide.
During a joint press conference on August 24, 2026, Robredo highlighted the program’s timeliness, noting the growing difficulties local governments, parents, and educators face in protecting children from harmful online content. She praised the MTRCB for taking a proactive approach to media literacy despite statutory limitations on its regulatory power over digital platforms.
“We are deeply grateful to the MTRCB for not letting its mandate limitations stand in the way of this advocacy,” Robredo said, emphasizing that local communities share the same digital challenges seen across the nation.
Sotto reiterated that safeguarding children from negative media influences requires a “whole-of-nation” effort. She stressed that local government units cannot tackle the issue alone and called for active collaboration among parents, educators, and community leaders. The MTRCB chief highlighted the need to equip supervising adults with knowledge of parental controls and security settings, while encouraging families to use the agency’s ratings as a practical guide.
The event featured interactive sessions led by MTRCB Vice Chair Juan “Johnny” Revilla and Board Members Eloisa Matias, Carmen Musngi, Almira Muhlach, and Richard Reynoso, focusing on the agency’s PROTECT framework. Attendees included parents, senior citizens, and representatives from parent-teacher associations across Naga City.
