Nostalgia is hitting television screens once again as one of the country’s most celebrated pop culture pairings makes a welcome return. Marvin Agustin and Jolina Magdangal are stepping back into the frame as leads in TV5’s series, Mommy Guard, bringing back a familiar dynamic that fans have cherished for decades. Decades after they first captured hearts across movies and television, the bond known to loyal followers as “MarJo” retains every bit of its original pull.
Speaking at the media conference for the show, both actors opened up about what keeps their working relationship so effective year after year.
For Jolina, the root of their on-screen connection comes down to total honesty and complete familiarity with one another. Kumbaga, what you see is what you get, very transparent kami sa isa’t-isa,” she shared. She pointed out how naturally they read each other’s routines after decades of shared history.
Marvin offered his own take on why their dynamic works, pointing out that not being able to break it down into a simple formula is part of the appeal. Pero I guess ‘yun nga, that’s why it’s called magic, it’s something na hindi namin ma-explain,” he noted.
Beyond the natural comfort they share, Marvin emphasized that their focus remains squarely on delivering what their audience expects and deserves. “But one thing’s for sure, katulad ng sinabi namin na ang pinanggagalingan nun is we appreciate ‘yung pagsuporta sa amin kaya binabalik namin ng performance. Pinagtatrabahuhan namin ‘yung eksena together, pinag-uusapan namin, kasi ang ine-expect nila sa amin dito ay maging masaya, kilig, siyempre kailangan namin i-deliver ‘yan as actors.”
For him, teaming up with Jolina means setting ego aside to protect the shared identity they built together.
With Mommy Guard, TV5 gives audiences another chance to catch one of local entertainment’s classic pairs doing what they do best. It stands as proof that genuine rapport and a clear commitment to the audience never go out of style.
