De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde Presents ‘REX’: A Contemporary Filipino Adaptation of Sophocles’ Oedipus Rex

MANILA, Philippines — De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB), through its School of Arts, Culture and Performance (SACP), proudly announces the upcoming theatrical run of REX, taking the stage from November 12 to 22, 2026, at the Power Mac Center Spotlight Blackbox Theater in Circuit Makati.

Written by Palanca Hall of Famer and DLS-CSB Digital Film faculty Joshua Lim So, and directed by acclaimed director and Theater Arts Chair Tuxqs Rutaquio, REX reimagines Sophocles’ classical tragedy Oedipus Rex within a modern Filipino setting. Departing from divine intervention, the narrative confronts pressing social issues—including political dynasties, flawed public infrastructure, and flood control failures. The story centers on the Po family and their firm, St. Paul the Apostle Constructions, after torrential rains leave over a hundred citizens dead, setting off a chain of events that exposes systemic corruption.

The multi-sectoral institutional collaboration unites Benildean students, faculty, alumni, and industry leaders across programs such as Theater Arts, Production Design, Dance, Music Production, Multimedia Arts, Photography, and Creative Industries Management.

Leading the ensemble are veteran actors Eula Valdez and Martin Del Rosario, marking their onstage reunion 12 years after their Gawad Urian-winning performances in the 2014 indie film Dagitab. Joining them are professional actors Bong Cabrera, Sheryll Ceasico, Emilio Macabantad, and EJ Jallorina, alongside student performers from Benilde’s BA Theater Arts program.
