Manila’s Finest: A Timeless Tale of Integrity for Brotherhood and Every Filipino Family

In Manila’s Finest, director Raymond Red—a Cannes Palme d’Or winner—uses the gritty, neon-soaked backdrop of 1969 Manila to do more than showcase a vintage aesthetic. While the period-accurate cruisers and sharp uniforms offer a visual masterclass, this Metro Manila Film Festival entry carries a weight that transcends its retro setting. At its core, the film is a multi-generational saga that mirrors modern-day urgency, reminding us that the fight for integrity and the bonds of family are as relevant now as they were decades ago.

‘The Kingdom’ Review: Well-thought out family and political drama

The Kingdom’ promises a different world but still familiar and they delivered. Performance-wise, there’s no complaints on its cast. What makes the film impressive is that the country they’ve developed, while fictitious, feels authentic to the characters. It doesn’t feel half baked. I wish the mounting felt more cinematic though.

THE KINGDOM is now showing in cinemas nationwide. Rated PG by the MTRCB. #TheKingdomMMFF
