After the special screening of Thop Nazareno’s ‘The Ride’ starring Piolo Pascual and Kyle Echarri, we get to talk to the star of the film, Piolo Pascual, on their crime action thriller film.
What’s Piolo’s reaction after seeing the film?
Piolo Pascual: A lot of mixed emotions, of course, because when you do a film, you want to make sure that it’s watchable and entertaining, and that people will get something out of it. And I guess, you know, while I was watching, of course, I’d seen the film many times when we were doing post prod, but seeing it for the first time on the big screen and realizing the impact it might have on our audience, you have to be responsible. And I guess that’s really what I was just thinking about the whole time I was watching it.
And I hope we were able to send a message across, because it’s really important nowadays. It’s very timely with what’s happening around the world: the chaos, the violence.
What was it like to portray a role far from who you are?
Piolo Pascual: I guess that’s the fun part of being an actor, you know. You get to diversify. You get to do roles na talagang hindi mo maiisip. Sabi ko, that’s the fun part of playing a character. You know it’s not you, but you are just portraying a character para mas makarelate yung mga tao at maintindihan nila yung conflict ng character mo.
How about Kyle Echarri? What was it like working with him?
Piolo Pascual: Actually, this was before Pamilya Sagrado. I guess Dreamscape, ABS, for that matter, had the idea for Kyle to play my son. I don’t know if they got wind of ‘The Ride’ before when we were filming, but Pamilya Sagrado came right away after The Ride. Matagal na naming pino-post prod ito. Nauna lang siya sa Pamilya Sagrado. And then dumiretso na nga ’yon.
‘The Ride’ opens exclusively at SM Cinemas on September 24, from Cornerstone Studios, MQuest Ventures and Spring Films. Rated R-13 by the MTRCB.
