MOVIE REVIEW: Ex With Benefits (2015)

EX WITH BENEFITS (2015) Review

Petty and insensitive. Ex With Benefits doesn’t try to be different from other Star Cinema sexy romantic comedy films. It squeezes in too many dramas that it already feels like a tired telenovela. Even the jokes or attempt for humor is either corny or inconsiderate. Ramsay and Garcia almost has no chemistry, they do act decently but almost nothing is working. Even their characters doesn’t even want to be with each other.

The troubled chemistry might be the reason for more complication squeezed in the story. There’s a lot of telenovela chliches that pops up on the second half of the film making it less than generic. There are interesting parts of the film, yes. Like Coleen’s relationship with his father but that feels like its for another film. The complications get more as the story progresses that the characters tend to push each other away on and on and on. Maybe things should be simpler, more focused and less dramatic. But with that story, it almost killed itself halfway through the film.
