HENERAL LUNA (2015) Review
Co-Written and Directed by Jerrold Tarog
“Bayan o Sarili?”
It’s hard to absorb its opening sequence as it is one of the busiest you’ll see but not that it’s bad, the film welcomes you in an unpleasant and intense gathering as to make the dispute feel authentic. Heneral Luna is big, not just budget big but story big. It’s very rare that we get to have this kind of film that doesn’t rush anything for the sake of anything or anyone. A film that shouts talent from actors to crew, people who do what they do for the love of art.
The film has everything you would want from a historical biopic film, a strong-willed main character that does everything for the love of his country, the dirty politics, the mother behind the great man and the loyal followers. It may be hard to follow at times especially on the first half of the film but its putting every detail carefully at the right place at the right time.
