THE ANGRY BIRDS MOVIE (2016) Review
Directed by Clay Kaytis, Fergal Reilly
Based on the best-selling phone game app, “Angry Birds” having a movie isn’t actually surprising after “The Lego Movie.” And it clearly wants the same love The Lego Movie got but it doesn’t know exactly how.
The Angry Birds Movie is entertaining from start to finish. If you get past its tedious, loud and crammed build up, you get to enjoy its hilariously and at times cleverly presented third act. It’s a fun movie, no doubt about that and embracing the amusement of the game in its climax is such a joyous thing to watch.
While everything is fun and a recommend watch for the whole family, it does kind of disappoint building something as original as its game. You could wish for a more genuine approach to its characters but they’re all predictable and at times pushing the limits too much. If the third act is the reason the film was made and they were just going with the usual to get to there, the film turned out good. Not great but not bad, just good.
