The success of Kapuso host, singer and actress Gabbi Garcia continues with another big project with none other than Vic Sotto and Dawn Zulueta as she is part of the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) entry “Meant to Beh: Ika-Something na Utos.”
The actress talks about her first mainstream film (Laut, an indie film being her first ever) at the pocket press conference for her single and magazine covers launch. She excitingly shares her experiences on set, “sobrang gaan ng set. It’s my first time doing an MMFF movie, na mainstream. So, ang gaan gaan lang sa set. Dinagdagan pa ni Baste na sobrang kulit and sobrang gigil. Ang tawag niya sa akin, girlfriend niya daw ako. Sobrang kinikilig ako kay Baste. Ang pinaka-close ko so far, si JC (Santos). Sobrang dami kong natutunan sa taong ‘yun, sobrang lalim. And Bossing (Vic Sotto) and Miss Dawn (Zulueta), what an honor to work with them. Ang gagaan nila lahat ka-trabaho, ang ha-humble. Happy set.”
But what is her role in the film?
“I’m the daughter of Bossing and Miss Dawn, kapatid ko si JC and si Baste. So part ako ng family.”
The film, like most of Vic Sotto’s MMFF entries, is a comedy film. But with Dawn Zulueta in the picture, the film will also be having a romance angle. When asked about her love team Ruru Madrid, if he’s part of the film, her answer is:
“Kasama siya pero hindi pa siya nagte-taping, hindi pa nashu-shoot yung parts niya kasi he’s also busy with Alyas (Robin Hood).”
So, Gabbi doing comedy on screen is not new. But she mostly does it live on Sunday Pinasaya. But how was doing a comedy film for her?
“‘Nung una, binabasa ko ‘yung script. Sabi ko, paano ko ba ‘to gagawing nakakatawa? Eh kunwari ‘yung script very light ‘yung joke pero ‘yung execution medyo kailangan, ‘yung bitaw mo. So, talaga, I’ve been asking the director, pati si JC was there to help. And nagiging normal na conversation lang siya with si Bossing and Miss Dawn kasi nga the way we would talk, nakakatawa na sina Bossing. So when we go to the set, when we throw lines, parang normal na.”
