“My Perfect You” Review: Uneven But is Undoubtedly Affecting

MY PERFECT YOU (2018) Review
Directed by Cathy Garcia-Molina

Cathy Garcia-Molina films has this certain “magic” in them that even if you see the most cliched storylines, recycled plots and cheesy lines. And her latest movie may or may not have some of those but the magic definitely is still there.

Gerald Anderson and Pia Wurtzbach are paired for the first time in a romance drama that has something more, something more it became something different. But what it offered in its latter part feels closer to home as it presents what we Filipinos hold dearest, our families.

Pia Wurtzbach may be new to being a lead actress in a romance comedy movie but she delivered what the material required her – to be a perky, strong and charismatic woman. Gerald Anderson, on the other hand, continues to wow with his acting. Yes, we’ve seen him do something out of the box in his primetime series Budoyand be the charming and ideal boyfriend in most of his movies but in here, we see an actor who gets to be more than just a lead of a romance comedy movie.

That is what’s surprising about My Perfect You, it gets to be more than just a romance comedy, it’s also an acting piece. Yes, it goes to its twist in a drastic and uneven phase but you just somehow flow with it because of how good its actors are, from Gerald to Pia, even Dimples Romana.

My Perfect You isn’t perfect but it is definitely and undoubtedly affecting.
