Multi-awarded actress Sylvia Sanchez does something new in her latest indie drama ‘Jesusa.’
She plays the title role Jesusa, a hardworking mother and wife. But life, cruel and unfair, puts her on a downward spiral: her husband leaves her as he gets another woman pregnant, the two daughters of her husband she took care of doesn’t want to have anything to do with her.
Alone and depressed, Jesusa resorted to drugs.
We always see Ms. Sylvia as a loving mother, always having a positive outlook in life. But in ‘Jesusa,’ we get to see a different Sylvia Sanchez who surrenders her life to something illegal.
She carried the film with her acting prowess. The film definitely brought out a different Sylvia Sanchez and you see the dedication in her craft. She’s not conscious of how she looks as long as it shows the right emotion her character is going through.
This is not your typical family drama movie. It’s depressing, but it showcases the lives of those who are forgotten, unappreciated and unloved.
‘Jesusa’ is now playing in select cinemas as part of the Sinag Maynila Independent Film Festival 2019.
