From Korea at the Busan International Film Festival, to Tokyo at the Tokyo International Film Festival, to Egypt at the Cairo International Film Festival, to Estonia, to India and to Taiwan, Brillante Ma Mendoza’s ‘Mindanao’ is finally coming home to the Philippines this Christmas for the 45th Metro Manila Film Festival.
The film tells the story of Saima (Judy Ann Santos), who cares for her cancer-striken daughter Aisa (Yuna Tangog) while she awaits her husband Malang (Allen Dizon) to come home who serves as a combat medic deployed in the southern Philippines. Their struggle is juxtaposed with the folklore of Rajah Indara Patra and Rajah Sulayman, the sons of Sultan Nabi, who fights to stop a dragon devastating Lanao.
Combining fantasy with real-life drama, Mindanao not only caters to the adults but also to children. Combining the internationally-acclaimed direction of Brillante Ma Mendoza to this year’s Cairo International Best Actress winner Judy Ann Santos, Mindanao takes the power duo to a whole new level in their respective careers.
Mindanao is not just a celebration of multi-awarded personalities in one project. As the film is also part of the 100 years of Philippine cinema and it continues to be recognized in different countries around the world.
Aside from the best actress win for Judy Ann Santos, Mindanao also bagged the Henry Barakat Award for Best Artistic Contribution for director Brillante Ma Mendoza at the Cairo International Film Festival.
The film also stars Allen Dizon, Ketchup Eusebio,Epy Quizon, Ruby Ruiz, Richard Manabat, Vince Rillon and introducing Yuna Tangog.
‘Mindanao’ opens in cinemas December 25, 2019 from Center Stage Productions and Solar Pictures. Rated PG by the MTRCB. #MindanaoTheMovie
