How do we immortalize the one hundred years celebration of the Philippine Nurses Association? That was the question that made executive producer and multi-awarded personality Dr. Carl Balita produce the upcoming film Siglo ng Kalinga.
After producing Nars in 2007 and Maestra in 2017, Balita is ready to produce Siglo ng Kalinga. Watch his speech during the Memorandum of Agreement and film launch below:
A century of care. Siglo ng Kalinga is a collection of stories of nurses inspired by the life of Anastacia Giron-Tupas – the Dean of Philippine Nursing.
“I want the nurses to dream, to be nurses again when they watch this film. I want them to commit in their next lives, they will continue to be nurses because of the pride that we will give after watching this film. More importantly, I want the public to value and appreciate nursing beyond what they already know,” shares executive producer Carl Balita.
“Sabi ni direk Lem (Lorca), ang intensyon natin ay pagurin ang mga manonood para kapag pagod na pagod na sila, sasabihin nilang ang hirap pala maging nurse. (Director Lem Lorca said that we want the film to show how exhausting it is to be a nurse so that the audience will appreciate more their work),” Balita continues.

The film is not a historical film but it will tell some stories of our history featuring the heroic acts of our nurses including during the COVID-19 pandemic we are experiencing today.
Balita also shares that while he can afford to produce a film starring big stars like Jennylyn Mercado, Jodi Sta. Maria and Coco Martin, he thought that he wants to make a statement that nurses are not only good in the bed side, nurses are not only intelligent people, nurses are also creative people. That’s why he wants to put a spotlight at the best actors in the nursing industry. That’s why they decided to make the film an all-nurses cast movie. Personalities are already being contacted to portray the characters including Anastacia Giron-Tupas.
