Okay, I was skeptical upon hearing Julia Barretto will be paired with Aga Muhlach in a movie. And not just any movie, a romance movie. Aga has been paied with Julia’s aunts Claudine and Gretchen and he also revealed that Marjorie was his on-screen girl friend in one of his series when they were young. It’s weird, yes. But Julia and Aga’s movie, while may depict some truths about our society, is fictional.

But with its controversial characters and casting, people online are talking about it and some have interesting points to raise including the film telling a story about grooming in a possible light, writer and director Denise O’Hara has a short answer to that, “No comment. I respect everyone’s opinion but I just want to assure the audience na it’s not like that at all.”
And after watching the film during its university and influencers’ screening at UP Film Center, the film does not depict grooming and the relationship between the two characters, while having a huge age gap, feels organic.
Director Denise also shared comments about how they translated the story from script to screen sensitively, “We had discussions naman every scene kung paano namin aatakihin ‘yung eksena. So there was a lot of feedback even amongst us.”
Ikaw Pa Rin Ang Pipiliin Ko tells the story of Jas who wants to be part of the renowned chorale, Madrigals. But after meeting Michael, the new conductor/ arranger for their own local choir, Jas finds herself singing a different tune, one that could either give her the happiness she longs for or the unforgettable pain of a heartbreak.
Starring Aga Muhlach and Julia Barretto, written and directed by Denise O’Hara, ‘Ikaw Pa Rin Ang Pipiliin Ko’ is now showing in cinemas natiownide.
