Real to Reel Gen Z Short Film Competition awards its winners with cash prizes up to P100,000

From P5,000 to P100,000, being part of the recently concluded Real to Reel Gen Z Short Film Competition, everyone in the Top Ten was a winner not only because of the cash prizes but also to see their short films on the big screen and being judged by esteemed members of the movie industry.

But why does an insurance company hold a short film competition?

“The only twist we’ve done back 11 years ago when we launched our first short film competition, the theme was “stories of friendship.” Bakit naman ganoon? Obviously if we’ve done stories about insurance, walang sasali. And so, we had “stories of friendship” because there’s a link – the qualities of a good friend are the qualities you should look for a good insurer: reliable, they’re there when you need them, supportive, etc. But this year, it’s a bit different. We’re saying ‘let’s go beyond that.’ Sa dami ng pinagdadaanan ng mundo natin at sa dami ng pinagdadaanan ng ating bayan ngayon, importante ang makinig tayo. So we wanted the young people, our hope for the future to tell us what in their mind is perceived as hope for the country. If there is hope and because we’re from the insurance industry, there is always hope,” shares Pioneer, Inc. President and CEO Lorenzo Chan Jr. during the Real to Reel Gen Z Short Film Competition awarding.

Real to Reel is a Gen Z Short Film Festival that allows students to capture their point of view (POV) on achieving a better future and inspire action on pressing social issues through their filmmaking creativity.

The film festival aims to connect and engage with Generation Z (Gen Z). It is important to give them a platform for their creativity that will resonate with their generation, make the youth more than they are perceived, be instruments for change, and tackle important socio-economic issues that matter most to them.

Only ten remaining short films were presented at the Real to Reel event. From P5,000 for the 10th place to 4th place, the online favorite will receive P10,000 while the 3rd place will get P30,000, 2nd place P50,000 and the grand prize for the 1st place is P100,000.

The judges were composed of writer and director Chris Martinez, former FDCP chair Liza Dino-Seguerra, Octopus&Whale founder and CEO Joey Tiempo, UxS President and CEO Madonna Tarrayo and Pioneer Group Head Lorenzo Chan Jr.
