“Sasabihin ko ba ‘yung pangalan ng inspiration? Charot! No! Yeah, I wrote the song para sa isang animal sa buhay ko because at some point in our lives, ipapakilala tayo ng universe sa isang narcissist, mga manipulator, ganun. Thankfully, natauhan ako. And I just want to share the rage kasi it’s a universal thing that people go through na we meet someone who is a hayop. So, this song is for everyone who’s going through the same pain. I’m not happy that people go through it, but I’m glad that we get to experience it together. We get to recognize na hindi lang pala tayo ang nakaka-encounter ng ganitong klaseng tao. So, I think it’s something that we celebrate,” Janine Berdin shares the inspiration behind her newest song ‘Hayup Ka!’ during her media launch.

‘Hayup Ka!’ is part of her much-awaited debut album, ‘Lab Songs Ng Mga Tanga,’ which is slated to be out in digital stores worldwide on September 25, 2025.
The record offers a raw and unfiltered take on the realities of love, heartbreak, and healing, capturing the emotions of being, in her words, “stupidly in love.”
But hearing and reading the lyrics of the song, you’ll be stunned at how nasty her experiences are from the person who inspired the song. But is it really just about one person? Can one person really treat another like that?
“I don’t know if I should talk about this, but it started for a specific person, but I just collected all the rage from everything that I’ve been seeing and experiencing in my life. It’s really not just about one person; it can be about a lover, it can be about a friend you fell out with, it can be about someone you put on a pedestal, you trusted, you believed in and disappointed you. So, it’s really a collective thing, it’s rage.”
Composing songs while in the toilet
One of the things that caught my attention while reading the PR kit was that Janine composed or worked most of her songs while in the toilet. Girl, we need some explanations.
“Who exposed me?” Janine jokes. “Nagsusulat ako, mostly, I’m in the bathroom or taking a poop, usually when I’m sh*tting on the toilet, kasi wala tayong ginagawa diba? Minsan nagso-scroll tayo or during those times when I’m emotional. Pag nagso-scroll ako sa social media tapos nakikita ko ‘yung tao na ‘yun, dun napapa-sulat ako, while I’m sh*tting kasi sh*t naman sila. So, deserve,” Janine continues.
Recently, Berdin was also recognized as part of Spotify’s EQUAL Philippines program, which spotlights women artists who are shaping the future of music. This milestone reinforces her growing influence and the anticipation surrounding her debut full-length project.
With its honesty, edge, and relatability, “Lab Songs Ng Mga Tanga” is set to mark a new chapter for Berdin, solidifying her place as one of OPM’s most fearless and distinctive voices.

“Lab Songs Ng Mga Tanga” will be available on all major streaming platforms starting September 26, 2025.
