THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA 2 (2026) Review
Directed by David Frankel
I was a bit cynical about the announcement. For someone who has watched the first film for, I don’t know, more than a hundred times, ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ is like a religion for me. It was well-written, fun, the re-watch value is high and it’s just something you’ll love and will grow on you more and more. It can stand the test of time. That’s why I was afraid of what the sequel might turn out.
But after, or even while watching the film, I was relaxed, enjoying the film, because ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ is a worthy sequel.
The reason the sequel works is that it understands and honors its characters. The twenty-year gap worked for a new story because times have changed: social media, political correctness, and how journalism is seen today. The sequel works because it swaps old-school print drama for the digital chaos of the 2020s. Miranda Priestly isn’t just fighting for a magazine cover anymore; she’s battling to stay relevant in a world of “cancel culture” and viral TikToks. This shift gives us plenty of those crowd-pleasing moments we’ve been craving, like the return of fan-favorite characters, some surprising appearances, and those legendary, soul-crushing insults, without feeling like a cheap repeat. It’s a perfect mix of nostalgia and modern reality, proving that banking on the charm of the characters works.
While it may feel like a rehash at times, following the same formula for conflict and resolution, The Devil Wears Prada 2 still manages to surprise. It is a total crowd-pleaser that provides heartwarming and fitting closure for its characters. The experience feels like a catch-up with a good old friend: warm, full of laughs, and finally answering those “what ifs.”
