It has been fifteen years since Anne Curtis and Jericho Rosales worked together on the teleserye Green Rose, and eighteen years since their last big-screen project, Baler. Despite the gap, the friendship between the two has remained steady, as they have worked for the same network, shared mutual friends, and moved within the same industry.

But would you believe that their upcoming movie, The Loved One, is only the third time they have worked together? Looking at the two of them, one could easily imagine dozens of projects they could have co-starred in. So, how did the reunion of Anne Curtis and Jericho Rosales finally come about for The Loved One?
“Nauna ‘yung kwento kasi 2018 ko pa siya sinulat. So, pre-pandemic concept and then, marami siyang pinuntahan – producers, actors, and then, the pandemic happened and everything stopped. And then, kinuha ng Cornerstone, saka kami ulit naghanap. And then, I asked Echo (Jericho), may kwento ‘yun na nasa inbox niya lang ito for some time. Tapos, si Anne naman kasi, lagi kaming nagko-communicate. If I have something crazy, I know Anne will get me. So, she read the script and she gets the whole concept,” director Irene Villamor shares.
“Nakita ko tapos sabi ko ayaw ko muna mag-love story. And then, nag-date kami ni direk Irene and we got to know each other, and I said, ‘Let me read the script.’ And after reading the script, I couldn’t resist it. I said let’s look for the right person. I offered myself to be the hunter, pero in-offer ko ‘yung story kay Piolo, kay Gerald Anderson. I was declined twenty times,” Jericho jokes.
“Sayang, parang Heated Rivalry,” Anne inserts her joke.
“That’s the only time I realized that it had to be a female,” Jericho continues.
“Working with direk Irene, we get each other’s craziness. And it was like one random night, I messaged her. I told her na I was looking for something a little bit mature when it comes to telling a story about where love can lead you. And that’s when she said na, ‘you know what? I have a script, ready na siya. May catch lang.’ Sabi ko, ‘ano ‘yung catch?’ Sabi niya, ‘may leading man na.’ Sabi ko, ‘sino ‘yung leading man?’ Sabi niya si Jericho. And you know, working with Jericho has been so easy. So, we reconnected again, and the year after, we started filming,” Anne shares her side of the story.

Fifteen years after their award-winning chemistry captivated Filipino audiences, Multimedia Superstar Anne Curtis and Asian Drama King Jericho Rosales reunite to look back at the fragments of a great love.
Moving beyond standard romance tropes of the past, this new chapter finds them in an emotionally rich romantic tragedy. The film dissects the fragility of love in the “angst-romantic” drama, The Loved One.
Joining the cast in a pivotal role is Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray in her highly anticipated cinematic debut, adding a layer of intrigue to the story.
Directed by the undisputed master of modern Filipino melancholia, Irene Emma
Villamor (Sid & Aya: Not a Love Story, Meet Me in St. Gallen), the film serves as the sole local Valentine’s offering for 2025—promising a beautiful guide to love.
The Loved One follows the quiet, high-stakes reunion of former lovers Ellie (Anne Curtis) and Eric (Jericho Rosales), who meet ten years after their final goodbye. As Eric waits, he retraces fragmented memories of their relationship, searching for the
exact moment they began to fall apart. The film experience is a celebration of the act of loving itself, serving as a poignant guide for anyone who has ever navigated the complexities of a relationship. It poses the haunting questions that linger after every great love: In every relationship, have we ever asked ourselves, are we the lover, and are we the loved one?
Heightening the romantic experience, the film features the Billboard Philippines Hot 100, “Multo” by Cup of Joe, as its sonic heartbeat. The track perfectly mirrors a narrative where memories refuse to stay buried.
The Loved One is the ultimate movie date of the year, serving as a reminder of why we fell in love with the cinema experience. This Valentine’s season, return to your first love: Filipino romance on the big screen. Presented by Cornerstone Studios and Viva Films, The Loved One opens in cinemas nationwide this February 11, 2025.
This is your Valentine movie.
