Filipino-Korean film project in development with ‘Big Bet’ and ‘Confidence Queen’ director

The bridge between Hallyu and P-Pop culture is about to get a lot stronger. At a recent intimate media conference, Tristan Cheng of Trifecta Brand Lab, along with director Nam Ki Hoon, officially announced an ambitious new project: a feature film that serves as a creative collaboration between South Korean and Filipino talents.

“We are very fortunate that Mr. Nam is present and is announcing that we are doing a film, not a series,” Cheng shared. “It will be a collaboration between Korean actors and talents—not just the actors but also the creatives—marrying and collaborating with Filipino talents and creatives.”

Capturing the “Warmth” of the Philippines

Director Nam Ki Hoon, known for his work on hit K-Dramas like Bet and Confidence Queen, is no stranger to Philippine shores. However, this project marks a tonal shift from his usual portfolio.

“To be honest, my previous projects have dark themes, but personally, while staying in the Philippines, I really experience how warm and kind the Filipinos are,” Director Nam explained.

He noted that while he has visited the country several times, this specific project is a tribute to the local spirit. “The project that we’re preparing at the moment is focusing on the human side, the good side of the Philippines… I’m very excited to see how we can express this positive emotion from Filipinos.”

While the production team has scouted iconic locations like Boracay, Cebu, and Manila, Director Nam expressed a desire to showcase the archipelago’s “hidden gems.” The goal is to introduce audiences to breathtaking landscapes that haven’t yet been overexposed in international cinema, capturing the raw, authentic beauty of the islands.

Tristan Cheng elaborated on this vision, mentioning their active coordination with the Department of Tourism (DOT). “We’re closely working with the Department of Tourism, and hopefully, we get to seal a deal… This is something that we, as Filipinos, want and this is something that we need,” Cheng added.

Any details about the film?

“This film, if I may share, is going to be a very warm, bright, showing the sunny side of the Philippines. We expect something fun, something light and very happy. And when it comes to the cast, unfortunately, we cannot share as of the moment because we’re still finalizing, but rest assured, we’ve been working to bring nothing but the best and some people, several people, we’re familiar with from the past shows that we’ve been watching,” Tristan shares.
