Behind every small house in the Philippines, there’s a father waking up early, working double shifts, and doing whatever he can just to buy food for his kids. Movies often try to capture this everyday struggle, and WANTAWSAN gets right to the point. Written and directed by Joseph Abello for the 2026 Puregold CinePanalo Film Festival, the movie takes a clear look at money problems, local politics, and how far a parent will go to keep their home together.
Joross Gamboa plays the lead role of a normal dad, husband, and neighbor trying to survive day to day. His character feels like every Filipino father who carries the heavy load of providing for his family. When hard times push him to trust a politician for a quick thousand-peso bill, the movie brings up a straightforward question: what happens when your values get tested just because you need money?
The film feels grounded because it shows real life instead of fake drama. Gamboa acts alongside a solid cast, including Rita Daniela, Zion Cruz, Raffy Tejada, Gillian Vicencio, Alwyn Uytingco, and Simon Ibarra. Rounding out the group are Dylan Talon, Acey Aguilar, Pontri Bernardo, and Kristoff Garcia. Their work on screen shows the real noise, jokes, and arguments that happen in any local neighborhood, making the story feel like something happening right next door.
