MR. HOLMES (2015) Review

“After a lifetime of detective work, there’s one mystery left to solve: his own.”

A humble yet engaging journey of the famous detective. Mr. Holmes is Ian McKellen in one of his most vulnerable yet charming role. The film isn’t as lavish as the other Sherlock Holmes film where he’s in a dangerous adventure solving cases or saving lives but this one is rather more personal. A closer look at how he is at a fragile time of his life.

The film works as an absorbing drama that captures the attention and hearts of the viewers as it digs deeper into the memories of the old Sherlock Holmes. Every sequences, Ian McKellen engages us with the richness of the story even though uneventful. Affecting us in a surprising but fulfilling way.
